Yesterday was absolutely amazing. I was lucky enough last night, to be in the special preview of Pixar’s latest film Up, which was also in 3D. It was insane, the story is beautiful, the animation is second to none and the 3D effect itself is stunning. It wasn’t used to jump the film off the screen into your face, but more as a tool to tell the story. It would pull back to show the depth and detail that Pixar are so well known for putting into their films.
Not only did I get to see the film, I was also lucky enough to sit in a Q&A with the films director Peter Docter and producer Jonas Rivera. We were told though that Peter wouldn’t be able to talk because he’d lost his voice, but that didn’t stop him from pleasing the crowd buy drawing some comical sketches of the main character Carl on a big drawing pad. I was lucky enough again, to ask the first question in the Q&A, asking if there were any scenes in the film that they had found more difficult to animate than they’d first realised. Jonas answered this be telling us about the first scene with Carl and his wife. Everyone movement had to be handled with care to put across the feeling and emotion of the scene. Saying that it was such a delicate scene that if one frame didn’t work, it would throw the entire sequence off.
All over it was an amazing experience and I would love thank onedotzero, especially Sharice, for getting me into the film.
