This weekend, as part of this year’s Dubrovnik Fashion Weekend onedotzero will have the pleasure of screening craftwork and advanced beauty, two successful programmes from previous onedotzero_adventures in motion festivals.

On 27th and 28th of August, the idilyc southern Croatian city of Dubrovnik will host the third edition of “Dubrovnik Fashion Week International”. DFWI is already a traditional manifestation held under the auspices of the Croatian Ministry of Tourism, City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

onedotzero has the pleasure of returning to Dubrovnik Fashion Week for screenings of 2 bespoke programmes as part of SENSOR, a contemporary art + culture project.

If your heart desires fashion of the digital arts or you’re just on holiday be sure to visit Dubrovnik Fashion Week this weekend!

Advanced Beauty [featured in onedotzero_adventures in motion festival 2008]: 18 digital artworks born and influenced by Audio Code. Inspired by synaethesia, these abstract manifestations are sculpted by the soundtrack.

craftwork [featured in onedotzero_adventures in motion festival 2009]: In an age driven by non-stop digital culture on fast-forward, many creatives have revived a handcrafted approach to producing new works. across promos, broadcast and independent shorts alike, directors have begun to rewind to the homemade, stitched and stuck together.

As part of the upcoming onedotzero_adventures in motion festival, we will once again be running our fantastic cascade programme. onedotzero_cascade will provide a platform for this year’s best and brightest graduates from a range of creative disciplines to take part in a collaborative educational project with their peers, get inspiration and advice from industry practitioners and create some exciting new work!

So what’s the challenge?
This year’s onedotzero_adventures in motion theme takes a utopian approach. In the past mankind’s visions of the future were largely optimistic, full of bright new ideas and technology benefiting social harmony. Now however, a decade into the 21st century, we find there is a propensity for doom and gloom. onedotzero wants the theme of utopia to bring a sense of adventure, hope and positivity about our future world to this years cascade project and the festival.

onedotzero is about experimentation with moving image in any context, so working in multi-disciplinary groups you will produce ideas and concepts for experimental work on this theme. Film, animation, motion graphics, interactive design, product design, architecture, installation, sound scores and live events are all relevant to create a proposal that embodies your collective utopian vision.

To help quench your thirst for our unique brand of cutting edge moving image [until november at least] we’ve put together a preview of our upcoming onedotzero_adventures in motion festival, featuring work from George Wu, Julia Pott + the latest offering from Johnny Hardstaff.

onedotzero_adventures in motion, our pioneering festival, returns this year to London’s BFI Southbank from 10 – 14 November 2010. Presenting the most exciting international moving image work, from the offbeat to the radical, the festival pushes the boundaries of creativity, innovation and technological wonder.

Highlights of this years festival are sure to include robotica, an exploration of the ethics and social effects of robots or androids, code warriors, investigating the trend of using computer code as raw material to create moving image work, and ladymation, a brand new programme showcasing eclectic gems from female directors currently leading the way in animation… as well as a late-night viewing which promises plenty of weird + wonderful content.

After weeks of overflowing mail sacks and countless vimeo links, we can now reveal that the total amount of submissions this year is an amazing…

1,665 from 58 different countries… a truly international response!

We’re still working our way through viewing them [which is made slightly difficult by the fact that there's so much good stuff] so we’ll be contacting those who submitted the final selected films over the next two months…

In the meantime – here’s some of the stamps that we collected from your envelopes. And thanks again… these submissions go towards making our festivals and events what they are!

Last weekend saw the international premiere of our latest commissioned project Feedback by Hellicar & Lewis at Banff Summer Arts Festival, followed by a week-long artist’s residency.

The interactive installation was projected across the interior windows of the brand new Kinnear Building – a Centre for Creativity & Innovation in the inspiring surroundings of the Canadian mountains, which Banff hopes will be “a meeting place where innovative arts and ideas, and creative leadership will flourish.”

We were really pleased to be involved with the Banff Summer Arts Festival, as-well as the opening of the Kinnear building, so a big thanks to Hellicar & Lewis and the Banff team.
