Last weekend saw the international premiere of our latest commissioned project Feedback by Hellicar & Lewis at Banff Summer Arts Festival, followed by a week-long artist’s residency.

The interactive installation was projected across the interior windows of the brand new Kinnear Building – a Centre for Creativity & Innovation in the inspiring surroundings of the Canadian mountains, which Banff hopes will be “a meeting place where innovative arts and ideas, and creative leadership will flourish.”

We were really pleased to be involved with the Banff Summer Arts Festival, as-well as the opening of the Kinnear building, so a big thanks to Hellicar & Lewis and the Banff team.

As part of the 2010 D&AD student awards, we were proud to sponsor the moving image category, as well as set the following brief that the students would use as inspiration for their projects:

“The city is constantly in transition and mutation, disappearing behind changing environments and shifting identities. create your own ‘adventure in motion’ that explores this.”

We had a fantastic response to the brief with 134 submissions, giving the judges a tough task.

The award ceremony took place last week in the centre of London’s glitzy Spitafields market, and onedotzero director Shane Walter was on hand to present the worthy winners with their D&AD pencils.

First place went to Matthew Young [University of Leeds] for his short animation ‘The City’.

Matthew’s film will now feature in our 2010 onedotzero_adventures in motion festival at BFI Southbank, London from 10-14 of November, and our international tour, as part of the ‘citystates 10′ program.

We were so impressed with the quality and diversity of the work that was submitted, that we awarded two second place pencils.

One went to Rob Francis (London College of Communication) for his short film ‘Project Atlantis’ , and the other went to Aki Chang, Fulya Gulel & Luis R. Serrano (Miami Ad School) for their film which encouraged audience participation.

Congratulations to the winners, and a big thank you to D&AD and all the students who took part in our brief.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to submit to the onedotzero_adventures in motion festival this year.

As ever we have been keeping our postman very busy and so far have received entries from over 51 different countries which is just fantastic.

Our programming team can’t wait to watch your film and aim to be in touch shortly with confirmation that we have received your submission.
We really appreciate your patience whilst we log the hundreds of entries we have been sent.

We know that it’s been a hectic couple of months for a lot of people so in response to the requests we have been getting we have decided to help by extending our deadline.

So if you have not yet had the chance but would still like to submit we are giving you TWO EXTRA WEEKS!

Here’s a refresher of what to submit:

onedotzero seeks submissions of new work, which demonstrates innovative creative expression and visionary moving image ideas from the following disciplines:

animation + short form: renowned for uncovering exciting moving image work from all over the world, onedotzero continues to champion progressive work of under 30 minutes across music video, animation, motion graphics, narrative shorts, artists moving image, documentary and generative art.

Feature Films: To compliment the curated shorts programme onedotzero seek feature-length work with an alternative aesthetic and distinctive directorial approach for the big screen.

Live Audio-Visual Performances: onedotzero has a passion for presenting narrative driven live cinema, original vj sets and unexpected collaborations between musicians and artists. onedotzero can only schedule a limited amount of live shows at the London festival, but also curate live av projects year round as part of the international tour.

Installations: onedotzero is keen to receive submissions of engaging audiovisual installation and compelling interactive experiences. Both existing work and proposals for new projects will be considered. Please provide details of the technical delivery in your ideas.

This year, the festival programme will also reach out to explore the following new themes so if your work explores any of these ideas we’re particularly keen to see your work:

Utopia
In the past, mankind’s visions of the future were largely optimistic. The future was going to be a wonderful place, full of bright, new ideas and technology benefiting social harmony. Now, a decade into the 21st century, we find there is a propensity for doom and gloom. onedotzero wants the theme of utopia to bring a sense of adventure, hope and positivity about our future world to the festival! What is your vision of a better future?

Code Warriors
Creatives are increasingly using computer code as a raw material to create generative, fluid and self-perpetuating moving image. This brand-new new programme will showcase the most imaginative examples of work in this field. So if you’re a creative coder we’d love to see your work.

Robotica
onedotzero has always been rather partial to our mechanical friends of the future, demonstrated over the years in the festival programming. We are now seeking robot-themed or inspired shorts, which explore the ethics and potential social effects of a world shared with robots or androids.

For a taster please watch the onedotzero_adventures in motion call for submissions video now. If you can’t see this video visit the vimeo page:
