It is the end of day 2 at the doodle bar for onedotzero_cascade teams 1,2,3 + 4!

Today we asked the groups to get together to discuss and document their thoughts, inspiration, ideas and progress responding to the theme of utopia. onedotzero director, Shane Walter set the brief during his presentation at the end of yesterday, which left 40 creative brains buzzing with new knowledge and inspiration as they left for the day. Read the full onedotzero_cascade brief here

It has been an intense day with many different ideas flying all over, paint on the walls and a lot of doodling! One team has been inspired by the future that they took a trip down to the science museum (http://madebypo.tumblr.com/). Other teams collaborated ideas in Battersea park, in pubs or used the space available to them at the doodle bar.

To follow on, Kin will be presenting a 40 minute presentation on collaboration and will follow on to group discussions tomorrow!

We have a very exciting day ahead of us so watch this space for an update of DAY 3 at the onedotzero_cascade 2010 workshop!

VOLUNTEERING AT THIS YEARS FESTIVAL:

onedotzero are looking for enthusiastic, friendly, creative individuals who are looking to be a part of one of the world’s most celebrated festivals of moving image.
We want to offer you a real insight into the festival world and give you the opportunity to gain invaluable experience across a range of exciting activities.

Volunteers need to be available from 9th – 14th November. See below for more details

FESTIVAL OVERVIEW:

Pioneering festival onedotzero_adventures in motion returns this year to London’s BFI Southbank + BFI IMAX running over 5 days and 3 late night evenings from 10 – 14 november 2010, presenting the most exciting international moving image work, from the offbeat to the radical, aiming to push the boundaries of creativity, innovation and technological wonder.

The festival permeates every space of BFI Southbank and the BFI IMAX, showcasing the most progressive new short film from around the world, feature film previews, playful interactive installations, startling live audiovisual performances, talks, workshops, director Q+As and this year for the first time at BFI Southbank, a gallery show.

The full festival programme can be viewed online here.

To get a flavour of the festival, check out our festival highlights video from last year.

ALL THIS NEEDS IS A GREAT TEAM TO HELP RUN IT!!

WHAT WILL VOLUNTEERING INVOLVE?:

onedotzero festivals couldn’t run as smoothly without the support of the volunteers. volunteers will support the onedotzero team with two key areas -

AUDIENCE LIASON:
On the ground there will be a variety of tasks which will involve being the main point of contact for our audiences. You will be at the heart of the festival, interacting with the general public and sharing with them the content of the festival. You will acquire a deeper understanding into how creative events work while hopefully expanding on your knowledge of arts, culture and entertainment! This will include….

Festival information desk- You will be the main point of contact between the festival and our audience – this will involve understanding the festival programme, answering questions, helping with directions, suggesting things to do.

Installation invigilation- We will have a number of fun, interactive installations throughout the BFI Southbank, volunteers will need to monitor the safe use of the installations while helping people to interact and explain.

Festival runners- Moving around the venue to be on hand to anyone who needs assistance for both audience + onedotzero team, assisting with our audience questionnaire.

FESTIVAL DOCUMENTATION:
onedotzero’s digital face is very much a riot of activity, which behind the scenes has a solid bunch of people working away to keep you all informed about the latest onedotzero + creative industries news. onedotzero are looking for tech savvy individuals who are competent in their field and looking to use their creative skills to contribute to the team. we are looking for:

Documenting online – Excellent writing skills? Got an eye for a good story? We need people to share the latest festival news with our local + international audiences – blogging / social networking / daily newsletters. Online support volunteers will also need to assist generally throughout the festival – this will help give you the face to face contact and atmosphere you need to write about!

Film crew- Camera people – Experience with Sony EX1 or EX3 camera essential. Audio knowledge preferred.
Editor / motion graphics designer – Excellent knowledge of FCP required, After FX experience preferred to make caption graphics etc if required. Send showreel.

Photography- photographers – to document the festival, inc. live av events / audiences / filmmakers / team members / artist Q+A.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING:

Volunteering at the festival is the perfect way to meet like minded people, in an exciting and challenging environment.
While it may be ‘all go’ at a fast pace, energy and enthusiasm will get you by. If you’re a team player and ready to get stuck in then you should definitely think about joining the team, it’s certainly rewarding!

Other benefits of volunteering at the festival include:

- a contribution to your daily travel / food costs
- Experience of working on a large scale creative event to add to your CV and portfolio
- An opportunity to watch one of our specially curated screening programmes
- Network with creative industry professionals
- Meet new like minded people
- Unwind after a hard day at our bar events

REGISTERING YOUR INTEREST:

Volunteers need to be available for a briefing on Tuesday 8th november, and then from Wed 10th to Sun 14th November inclusively.

This should involve 8 hour shifts per day which will likely fall between 1-9pm [exact times tbc].
We prefer volunteers to be available for all 5 days – having a consistent team will help with team bonding and for everyone to know and understand the festival programme + content

If you are interested in volunteering, please email: info@onedotzero.com putting ‘festival volunteer + NAME’ in the subject line and include the following:
- Outline of what you’re interested in.
- A current cv / link to your website.
- Applicable skills you have to share.
- What you want to get out of the volunteering placement.
There are limited places for our festival documentation team so if you’re interested in this, please submit a showreel with examples of your work + an overview of your skills.

We look forward to hearing from you and creating our very special festival team for the 2010 onedotzero_adventures in motion festival!!

As part of the upcoming onedotzero_adventures in motion festival, we will once again be running our fantastic cascade programme. onedotzero_cascade will provide a platform for this year’s best and brightest graduates from a range of creative disciplines to take part in a collaborative educational project with their peers, get inspiration and advice from industry practitioners and create some exciting new work!

So what’s the challenge?
This year’s onedotzero_adventures in motion theme takes a utopian approach. In the past mankind’s visions of the future were largely optimistic, full of bright new ideas and technology benefiting social harmony. Now however, a decade into the 21st century, we find there is a propensity for doom and gloom. onedotzero wants the theme of utopia to bring a sense of adventure, hope and positivity about our future world to this years cascade project and the festival.

onedotzero is about experimentation with moving image in any context, so working in multi-disciplinary groups you will produce ideas and concepts for experimental work on this theme. Film, animation, motion graphics, interactive design, product design, architecture, installation, sound scores and live events are all relevant to create a proposal that embodies your collective utopian vision.
