human nature
dir: michel gondry, 2001 93 mins uk premiere
super sneak special screening of visually inventive gondrys
daring debut feature. an adaptation of charlie kaufman's script
produced by spike jonze, the duo behind being john malkovich and
adaptation. a hair-raising, odd-ball comedy led by a superbly solid
cast [tim robbins, patricia arquette, rhys ifans,] clearly having
fun with the wildly fertile script. tim robbins is researcher, nathan
bronfman, with an unhealthy obsession for perfect manners whos
lifes project is to civilize a wild man. cue the
feraland sex obsessed puff [ifans] and arquette as nathan's girlfriend
lila, an abnormally hairy woman who is divided between her desire
to be normal and her true underlying nature. full of explosive scenes
of visual brilliance a delectably insane first feature.
