Games and Film – the new ‘Indie’?
In association with BAFTA
Forget big-budget films-of-games [Prince of Persia, the Resident Evil series], and the usual game tie-ins that accompany blockbuster movies – with downloads offering revolutionary opportunities for all digital media, many more independent collaborations are emerging between directors, producers and games developers to commission live-action shorts, animations and in-game content. Where are these new hybrid media headed and how can UK filmmakers get in on the game?
Special guests include Joey Ansah (The Bourne Ultimatum) discussing his live-action short Street Fighter: Legacy, and Allen Leitch from Spov , a creatively-led design and animation studio whose work includes cinematic title sequences for the last three Call of Duty games, and Ben Hibon, director of award-winning short Codehunters, who has created work for Heavenly Sword, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows and A.D.
BAFTA’s public events and online resources bring you closer to the creative talent behind your favourite games, films and TV shows.

Moanbot: robot-building workshop with Tinker London
For more hands-on DIY action, Tinker will be running a robot-building workshop on how to make small cheap speaking robots inspired by their ‘Moanbot’ project. Moanbot is a small intelligent English robot that moans according to the changes in his immediate environment. Just like the rest of us. Tinker London designed Moanbot to show that designing intelligent systems can be accessible. Moanbot’s intelligence and personality is supported by an electronics platform [Arduino], a few basic sensors [sound, light, temperature, accelerometer] and some very clever quips from an Englishman.
The workshop will focus on allowing people to build their own Moanbot, develop their own personalities both in terms of the Moanbot's reactions and its’ design.
