Nirmal Singh Dhiman is a visual artist, illustrator and designer, who likes to make intimate, colourful and multi-faceted narrative drawings and paintings using a combination of watercolour, gouache, inks, collage, letraset, found elements, verse or prose.

He has been working on a visual diary drawing project with 5,000 entries that spans over a period of 14 years .

Alongside this he also works with various photographic, animation and video based means.

This is a 60 second animation that depicts the artist's return to India, after a period of fifteen years.

The film explores his reactions to the sights, sounds and colours he had long forgotten. The journey enables the birth of renewed perspectives, encouraging a fresh understanding of heritage, language and self-identity.

This film was commissioned by Moti Roti, for the 60x60 Secs international art films project. The project consists of 60 films that are each one minute long, made by established and emerging artists from the South Asian Diaspora – twenty each from Britain, India and Pakistan – each presenting their personal perspectives on what ‘home and boundaries’ mean to them.

This project has been touring internationally, with the films being shown in exhibition, education and artistic contexts.

The films are usually shown in succession. Destination / Direction has been known to sometimes be the first film to be shown in the series of sixty films.
