about wind to light

this experimental site-specific installation illustrates alternative, sustainable ways of harnessing energy that will explore the power of the wind in the city, visualising it as an ephemeral cloud of light.

the installation is custom built, using 500 mini wind turbines to generate power, which illuminates hundreds of mounted leds, creating firefly-like fields of light, with wind visually interpreted as electronic patterns across the installation.

wind around the southbank generates the power, creating a unique and thought-provoking light art piece that will delight all ages.

22 June 2007 - 10:28RIBA demonstration model

Building Demo

The RIBA is not a windy place so we built this demonstration model to show what is currently happening on the southbank.  This uses fake wind generated from controlled fans.

22 June 2007 - 10:11Jason Bruges, DIY Kyoto, and XCO2 at the RIBA

The talk last night at the RIBA was very interesting and I thought went very well.  DIY Kyoto were talking about their company and philosophy of design and gave a demonstration of thier amazing product the WATTSON.  XCO2 raised some interesting issues about the use of renewable energy in art.  Also the demo of Wind to Light worked very well with Jasons presentation, in fact all three talks tied together seemlessly.
