monolith, uva

onedotzero commissioned a bespoke installation by UVA for the V+A's John Madejski garden

UVA created a single block of LEDs about three meters high. Placed in the John Madejski garden at the V&A museum in 2006, its minimal lines form a stark contrast with the baroque building around it.

Without human presence close by, the installation shows soothing colours and plays calming sounds. As people approach Monolith, the colour and sounds become louder and harsher, suggesting a temperamental and powerful presence within.

An engaging and beautiful piece, which worked particularly well against the backdrop of such a beautifully iconic building.
